Bali’s Best Beaches

Bali’s Best Beaches

Updated August 2016 – The best beaches in Bali are some of the best in the world. It’s most likely that you came to Bali for one of these beaches.

Bali is a destination on the top of many people’s travel list, and for good reason. With its hauntingly beautiful landscapes, its warm and friendly people and its fascinating and ancient culture, visiting Bali is a travel experience you’ll never forget.

As well as being a very laid-back and spiritual island, Bali is also famous for its incredible beaches, many of which have become famous worldwide for their beauty. ‘Discovered’ as a surfers paradise in the 1970’s, Bali has since seen a huge influx of surfers and backpackers, all hoping to get a magical glimpse of its pure shores.

More than just a surfers hotspot, Bali offers world-class restaurants, great value-for-money resorts and hotels, boutique and bargain shopping, and a chance to experience life at a gloriously slow pace. Let’s take a closer look:

Nusa Dua is an area located 40km from the provincial capital of Bali, Denpasar. The area is famous for its fabulous beaches and equally fab high-end resorts and golf courses. Nusa Dua was primarily developed for tourism, so it has all the services you’d need during a vacation. With miles of golden sand stretching out in front of your feet as you first step onto the soft, warm beach, you’ll instantly fall in love with this gorgeous and laid-back area of Bali. One of the best beaches is the public beach at Geger, which is also home to a lovely museum of Asia-Pacific art. Nusa Dua is suitable for all ages, with young couples, families and older visitors, making up the diversity in visitors to the area.

The Nusa Dua beaches are just 20-30 minutes from the international airport of Ngurah Rai.

Kuta is undoubtedly the most popular beach destination in Bali with hoards of backpackers and families from all over the world visiting the small beach town on any given day. The gorgeous beach faces out onto the Indian Ocean and is over 5km’s long. Surfing was the original attraction for tourists to this area, and has remained one of the most popular activities in Kuta, so it’s perfect for outdoor and water sports enthusiasts. Everyone from beginner surfers to professional wave-riders can be found here, although most of the pro’s are usually found in quieter, less developed regions north of Kuta.

Kuta is walking distance from both Seminyak and Legian, and is located just 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Ubud is a 45 minute drive from Kuta.

Just a few minutes north of Kuta is Seminyak, another blissful and sleepy surf town of Bali, which comes alive at night as the islands’ party hotspot. Seminyak attracts a more luxurious orientated traveller, with plenty of upmarket hotels and resorts in the area to cater to them. With boutiques, restaurants and shops a plenty, there is a lot to do in the area besides surfing and lying on the beach. There are also several luxury spa’s which are definitely a must-have experience while in Bali, as Seminyak is the capital of the spa industry on the island. Seminyak is perfect for a group of friends, or older couples and families looking to treat themselves to some beach-side pampering.

Seminyak is located just 25 minutes from the international airport to the south, depending on traffic.

Legian has practically merged with its neighbor to the north, Seminyak, due to consistent and rapid tourist development in the area. Both towns are within a stones throw of each other and have similar attractions, such as great bars, restaurants and hotels, but Legian feels a lot more relaxed and less ‘touristy’. The beach here seems to stretch on forever, and is a great place to settle down with a cold beer and watch the surfers ride the waves. Legian is ideal for young families, or couples looking to have a nice relaxing holiday by the sea. However, if you ever want to pick up the pace during your vacation, Seminyak is only a few minutes walk away.

Legian is about 15 minutes from the airport.
