Every year, in the beautiful, tropical south of Taiwan, thousands of music and art lovers gather to experience the biggest, most celebrated festival in Taiwan, and one of the most iconic events in the greater Asian region.
The Spring Wave Music and Art Festival in Kenting is without doubt the highlight of the year, drawing in crowds from all over Taiwan, and further abroad to dance in the spring sunshine while listening to some of the best local and international music artists. Started in 2006, the festival now attracts over 20,000 people each year, growing in popularity and notoriety each time.
The festival has a strong emphasis on nature, promoting environmental protection and preservation during the events as a surplus to the music and cultural events.
Attending the Spring Wave Music and Art Festival as part of a visit to the stunning Hengchun Peninsula is a thrilling experience of contrasts. From laid-back, quiet beaches around Kenting National Park, to crazy electronic dance parties lasting well into the early morning, visiting the area at this time of year is unlike any other experience you’ll have in Taiwan. Just make sure to spend some time re-energizing among the beauty of the Kenting countryside after partying till you drop at this two-day musical feast!
Music includes a range of genres such as rock, folk, hip-hop, electronic and psychedelic, catering to a large spectrum of musical tastes. Past pop performers at the festival have included JJ, Aska, A-Fu, Amber, Sodagreen, Matzka and Jam, while electronic music from Andy Moor, Super8 and Tab have attracted huge crowds.
The festival is held each year around Hengchun Airport, with the large lush fields and limited light pollution allowing festival-goers to truly feel at one with nature; in line with the festivals mission.
The 2014 Kenting Spring Wave Music and Art Festival is held each April as part of a larger string of music and arts events in the area, including Spring Scream, Spring Electronic and Spring Fantasy. Each music event caters to different styles of music and has various cultural events organized around the area, making it the biggest-selling and largest music event in Taiwan.
