Singapore has 11 gazetted public holidays each year. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) publishes the official dates and identifies additional public holidays when certain holidays fall on a Sunday.
Holidays left in 2026. Deepavali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, so Monday 9 November is the holiday in lieu and you get a three-day weekend from 7 to 9 November — a good time to catch the Deepavali light-up in Little India. Christmas Day (Friday 25 December 2026) and New Year’s Day (Friday 1 January 2027) then give back-to-back long weekends, the usual window for a quick JB or Batam trip, so expect Causeway jams at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. Once these pass, the 2027 calendar below is the one to plan your AL against.

Singaporeans usually just call these PH, and in Malay the same list is the cuti umum. Whatever you call them, the rule is identical: eleven gazetted days a year, with an off in lieu on the Monday whenever one of them falls on a Sunday.

What's different about Singapore public holidays in 2027
2027 looks very different from 2026 for anyone on a Monday-to-Friday week. In 2026, ten public holidays landed on weekdays. In 2027 only eight do: 1 Jan, 8 Feb (in lieu), 10 Mar, 26 Mar, 17 May, 20 May, 9 Aug and 28 Oct.
The reason is the calendar. Three 2027 holidays fall on a Saturday (Chinese New Year on 6 February, Labour Day on 1 May and Christmas Day on 25 December), and Singapore only gazettes a Monday in lieu for Sunday holidays. That means just one holiday in lieu in 2027 (Monday 8 February), compared with three in 2026. If Saturday is your non-working day, your employer must give you another day off or an extra day's pay for each of those three Saturdays, so it is worth confirming how your company handles it before you book leave.
The two Islamic holidays also move about 11 days earlier than in 2026. Hari Raya Puasa shifts from 21 March to Wednesday 10 March, and Hari Raya Haji from 27 May to Monday 17 May. The May cluster is the standout: Hari Raya Haji (Mon 17) and Vesak Day (Thu 20) fall in the same week, so three days of leave give you nine days off in a row.

Public Holidays
Singapore usually has 11 public holidays each year, but the number can occasionally change because Islamic festivals follow a lunar calendar. Since the Islamic calendar is shorter than the Gregorian calendar, Hari Raya Puasa or Hari Raya Haji can sometimes fall twice within the same calendar year, creating an extra public holiday.
Public Holiday Rights for Employees in Singapore
If you work on a public holiday in Singapore, the Employment Act entitles you to an extra day’s salary at your basic rate of pay on top of your normal pay for that day. Your employer can instead give you a replacement day off — commonly called off-in-lieu or OIL — if you both agree. Employers and employees may also agree to swap a public holiday for another working day. 2027 Long Weekends and Leave Planning
2027 gives Singapore five long weekends without using any annual leave, plus a few midweek holidays that stretch nicely with one to three days of leave. Here is the full list, in date order:

Three 2027 holidays fall on a Saturday — Chinese New Year (6 February), Labour Day (1 May) and Christmas Day (25 December). Singapore only gazettes a holiday in lieu when a public holiday falls on a Sunday, so there is no extra Monday off for these. Under the Employment Act, employees whose rest day is Saturday get an extra day off or a day’s salary instead.

Are they called bank holidays in Singapore?
No — the official term here is public holiday, or more precisely a gazetted public holiday under the Holidays Act. “Bank holiday” is British and Indian usage, and people who move here from those countries often search for it out of habit. Banks in Singapore close on the eleven gazetted public holidays, so the practical effect is the same, but you will not find the phrase on any MOM document.
